4gb and seeing only 2.93?

Maybe one of the sticks isn't installed all the way. But I am seeing only 2.93gb of the 4x1gb sticks of memory I just installed? I thought XP Pro 32bit saw 3.25gb?

It's variable depending on your hardware. Things like lots of video memory will make the number lower.

DXDIAG shows how much memory the video card is using, on my 2900XT for instance it said it was using around 1370MB of memory for some reason, which makes sense when you can only see ~2.9GB out of the total 4GB.

I checked dxdiag, and it says my card is using 256mb, but my 4gb is only reading at around 2.8gb. Am I interpreting dxdiag wrong? Under the display tab, and under my video card info, it says 'Approx. Total Memory: 256mb'

wait a sec if u have a video card it still takes awya from the ram? or r u talking about video cards that say Eg. 512 supported ram?

They all do, but they (and everything else in your system) take addresses away from the high end first. It doesn't take any RAM, it just makes your system umable to address it.

So 64bit allows more addresses which allows more addressable memory?
