I recently built a new rig and used an Asus p5b-e with a c2de6600, along with 2gb of ddr2800 (pc6400). Newegg is running a sale on 2 gb of pc6400 for $169 (plus they throw in a 1gb thumb drive)http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820211066. So I don't think I really needed 4gb of ram, but it can't hurt right? so i ordered it. I'm not running Vista yet, but when I do 4 is more useful there isn't it? will it speed up my XP though?

The performance gain for XP plateaus at around 1GB, which means that having beyond 1GB of ram will not significantly increase XP's performance, however having 4GB of ram doesn't hurt and will certainly increase the performance of RAM intensive programs because it eliminates the need to use the pagefile, or constantly swap from it.
