4gig ram reads 2.9gig ram

i have a 4gig ram installed but it reads as a 2.9gig ram any way i can fix this???

Are you running a 32 bit OS? If so then you need to upgrade to a 64 bit OS to read more then 3 gigs of RAM.

also some times onboard video will use so much of your ram, say your onboard is using 512 of your ram, and u have 3gb it will show as 2.5gb usable, but 32 bit os will only use 3gb, although i know in xp it showed as 3gb and in win7/vista it shoes 4gb in but says 3gb usable

It's most likely your OS since you're probably running a 32-bit OS.

Check to see if you have an option for "Memory Remapping" in your BIOS. If it's enabled, disable it. If it's disabled, enable it. Then reboot see what happens.
