Defrag will definitely help a system run faster, but I wouldn't think it would fix a specific game not launching.

Once you get out in computer repair field and start working on systems there will be times that most weirdest thing will fix the issue. I've been doing this kind of work for almost 20 years now and things are still amazing me on what will actually solve an issue.
Or switching computers... which I've mentioned several times and nobody else seems to be acknowledging.

I started out witha Commadore 64.
Jumpped quickly to a Commadore 128, tape drive storage.
Gave it to my nephew's dad and bought a Tandy 1000, (Mirror IBM)
I trained AT&T technicians on computers, and tested Technet Laptops which were able to be dropped from the top of a telephone pole while working and most did survived the fall.
I've been repairing PC and laptops hardware for 15 since I retired.
And four years ago I was given a dead Flat panel monitor and opened it up to see inside one for the first time. Self taught, I repaired it for $.18 after ordering the parts needed from China.
I was offered a 40 inch falt panel TV two years ago to keep for parts. I found the three parts I needed, 1 ordered for China, 1 from Japan and 1 part from Latvita from the old Russian republic. I did not resolder cheap parts back on the switchable power boards, I picked up the best quality electronic parts I could find.
That TV had been working in the owners home since except for the three months it took me to get the right parts. The parts cost to me was $17.50
including shipping. I charged the TV owner $20 because it has become a hobby for me helping others.
I have had or worked on 400 or more PCs since I retired for fun and
I didn't just get off the PC turnip truck yesterday.
Forgive the rant, but some members here think their poop is special.

Apologies if I came off as pretentious. It was not my intention. Main thing is you got it working. Whatever did it is irrelevant now I guess. I just personally don't think it was the defrag.
I'm with you on this. The initial purpose of the thread is to assist the OP in fixing their problem. Once it's fixed, the thread should be a good source of information on how to fix the problem. If a user did 100 things to the computer and got it to work, that's fine, but there should be some effort in isolating the probable or definite actions that caused the fix.
