5 month custom build, having high CPU clock and issues

I built this computer seen here: https://pcpartpicker.com/b/JFkTwP with a i7-4770K CPU and corsair H60 liquid cooler.

After about 5 months, the other day, i came home from work and woke my computer and began to try to access Chrome browser. A white window (empty) came up, only the exit, max/minimize buttons were available on the window. This didn't try to load it seemed, it just DIDNT. Tried to open all my microsoft office apps, not one even attempted to open, then I lost the ability to click the start menu. I had tech support from micrsoft on remote and phone for 2 hours before they told me to just reset windows. I've done that, but I'm not sure the remaining symptoms are from a virus. Everything works now, but HWMonitor shows my CPU's 4 clocks are all pegged at 4397mhz.

Maybe I'm paranoid after w/e the F happened to my CPU yesterday when I had to reset windows, but when pc wakes, CPU clocks are maxed but CPU Utilization is 1-10%.

Just worried my I7 is gunna crap out.

4.3GHz just sounds like the turbo boost frequency which is fine and normal. Have you overclocked manually at all?

You could have malware that is hogging your CPU and making it run at 4.3GHz. Try the below:

As the old sticky was getting outdated and new software created to get rid of today's adware/malware, I'm creating a new thread for users to read and follow the directions hoping to reduce the amount of posts required to solve their malware issues.

The most common malware issues can be taken care of just by running a few simple programs and it would help to run them in order.

1. AdwCleaner
2. Junkware Removal tool
3. Malwarebytes

I will post specific instructions for each program later in this post.

For the more tougher malware issues, such as mbr/bootkit infections and browser redirect infections we must use stronger programs.

1. TDSSkiller
2. ASWmbr
3. Combofix - NOTE: Should only be ran when told to do so by a Moderator.

So if you come here looking for help to remove malware on your system, we would appreciate it if you would go ahead and follow steps 1-4 outlined below and we will determine if any more scans are needed to get you cleaned up.

1.

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your Desktop.

•Please close all open programs and internet browsers.
•Double click on adwcleaner.exe to run the tool.
•Click on Scan.
•After the scan you will need to click on clean for it to delete the adware.
•Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart.
•Please post the content of that logfile in your reply.
•You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[Sn].txt as well - n is the order number.

2.

Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.

•Shutdown your antivirus to avoid any conflicts.
•Very important that you run the tool in this manner:
Right-mouse click JRT.exe and select Run as administrator
Do NOT just double-click it.
•The tool will open and start scanning your system.
•Please be patient as this can take a while to complete.
•On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
•Post the contents of JRT.txt in your next message.

3.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version. Please keep updating until it says you have the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • A log will be saved automatically which you can access by clicking on the Logs tab within Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

If for some reason Malwarebytes will not install or run please download and run Rkill.scr, Rkill.exe, or Rkill.com. If you are still having issues running rkill then try downloading these renamed versions of the same program.

EXPLORER.EXE
IEXPLORE.EXE
USERINIT.EXE
WINLOGON.EXE

But DO NOT reboot the system and then try installing or running Malwarebytes. If Rkill (which is a black box) appears and then disappears right away or you get a message saying rkill is infected, keep trying to run rkill until it over powers the infection and temporarily kills it. Once a log appears on the screen, you can try running malwarebytes or downloading other programs.

Please post the log that Malwarebytes displays on your screen.

4.

Download OTL to your Desktop

•Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
•Click on Minimal Output at the top
•Click the Quick Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
◦When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL. Just post the OTL.txt file in your reply.

So in your original thread asking for help, please give us a short description of what the problem is and then post the logs from the following 4 programs.

1. Adwcleaner
2. Junkware removal tool
3. Malwarebytes
4. OTL

That's kind of odd, the turbo for that CPU is 3.9. I wouldn't worry about the clocks themselves (see sig) but am curious what kind of voltage you are seeing on the CPU for these frequencies too.

Do you have any other settings in BIOS to increase the multiplier or any sort of auto overclock settings that would be influencing this? You should be able to verify frequency and voltage within CPU-Z.

This is just having Chrome open with 2 tabs... Poor computer.... I don't want to damage the hardware, should I take action with the stats below being the case?

#EDIT - Sorry it's a I7-4790K

Edit*
Im not so sure it's still a virus or malware, if ever. I now have purchased bitdefender internet security and reset windows but the clock is still high and still not sure if that CPU fan (pump H60 corsair liquid) is suppose to always run at 4500RPM

The thing that is annoying is the mouse lags now.

I'm considering taking to PC repair shop... I shouldn't have mouse lag on this setup. Safe mode is better....

That makes a difference since the 4790K turbo value is 4.4 GHz as you're observing.

What are you doing when the mouse lags? What kind of behavior are you defining as lag?

Sometimes nothing, other times browsing internet or developing in Unity. I will move the mouse and it will skip over areas of the screen as if there's lag. (Stop and transport to position all within a few milliseconds). AS of late, the CPU clocks between 4 cores are hopping between 800mhz minimum to up to 2000mhz and randomly between the cores. This is when I'm typing this now.

I ended up formatting the installation of win10 that was a Windows 7 pro upgrade, and did fresh install. I have stopped looking at HWMonitor in a paranoid manner and mouse lag stopped.

Reading posts I was about to recommend a reinstall of Windows. Sounded like a tired Windows, despite only being 5 months old.
Whenever a PC acts weird in these manners, I always just try to boot on a LiveUSB with Linux on it. Ignores your Windows installation and gives a good idea if it's hardware or software.

Can a bad ssd be the cause for these symptoms? I took a snip the other day of a window and saved to desktop and it didn't show up for 15 seconds.

The drive shows up in device manager fine... CrystalDiskinfo told me my 1TB disk drive was healthy, my external HDD was healthy, but it said my SSD was 100% UNKNOWN. I ran Mark3D and the video card got a normal score, which I think rules out that. Maybe SSD or the asus z87 mobo?

Edit* I never altered my BIOS settings, i had to do a Flash of BIOS to get the z87 pro to work with Devils Canyon.
