5 User Accounts

I have a computer with 5-user accounts, it has about 20 gigs left on it's 40 gig HDD. It has 256 RAM etc. Is there anyway for me to boost up login time, say from where you choose your username to where you are ready to search the web. Sometimes it takes forever, and sometimes not. I understand some programs like Anti-virus run on startup so that factors in, but is there any programs to speed it up, or check all (all) startup programs.
thanks,
JTM

start->run->msconfig

go to the startup tab (or whatever it is called, it is the last one on the right) and uncheck all. This should speed it up.

That's exactly why I didn't listen to him..but I do have some weird symbol ones (icons etc.) what does that mean for startup? plus is there anyway to speed it up.

Then how come my computer works just fine? You do not need any of the icons in that list, the important ones are in the other tabs in that menu.

DO NOT TOUCH the system.ini, win.ini, boot.ini, or services tab. Unless you really know what you are doing, messing with those will kill your computer.

However, do whatever you want with the startup tab. Those are only the programs that you install.

Umm..maybe by doing what I suggested?

or if ure willing to spend money try iolo's system mechanic 6 pro it has a program in it that will speed almost everything up (windows startup, internet, hard drive, memory)
