$500 fully packed PC from Costco ?

You would need to do more than just get a video card, you would also have to upgrade the power supply if you were planning on running anything halfway decent of a card.

Those computers are great deals for normal people that just do tasks that are easy on the hardware. They are really not made to be converted into a gaming machine. Here are a few reasons why.

1. The power supplies that are in machines like that, will more than likely NOT support much if any kind of graphics card that can game.

2. The motherboards are not that good at all. Very basic and very few options. Just for an example...look at the LAN port...10/100 Ethernet LAN is capable of course for internet communications, but 10/100/1000 Ethernet LAN has been an industry standard for a few years now.

To make it capable of gaming, you will need to sink an easy couple hundred dollars into it. If you add up the price for the computer and the upgrades...you can build a computer that will crush that thing with much better overall hardware.

Just my 2 cents:D

It looks so...
Quad Core
4GB RAM
1 TB (7200 RPM) Hard drive?

Can you ever get a quad core for $500? (I'm prepared to be eaten alive by this statement... lol)

Yup, you can get a better quad such as a phenom II 920, M4A78 plus mobo, 4gb DDR2, and end up around the same price as that rig there.

I have just looked into it further and you get a 300w power supply which I wouldnt trust from what I have learnt on here with any extra upgraded components. I was determind to buy and not build a system but its better to build.

i ended up buying an Acer from Frys, i know i know its not a scratch build but its so much faster and easier to just go and buy a prebuilt system, anyhow the only thing i had to exchange was the video card, so everything is now running great and i only spent 800 or so, im happy for now, all the games run fine including Crysis :)
any of you try Crysis yet?

WHat sorta video card did you put in it....anything halfway decent you better have changed the PSU or you have a power supply failure waiting to happen.

My philosophy, you get what you pay for. If you're happy with what you have then were all happy for you. Im also curious on what video card did you get to replace the old one.

costco has some deals for the casual user I found a good computer that only cost 500 dollars but obviously it's gone now that I go back. oh well.
