$500 gaming build/or modify current pc

So i got 500 usa dollars... currently have a box pc i bought.. its a compaq 5320f pc.. has the ol 6150senforce 430.. Cant do much on it lucky i can ever run mw3 on low settings... still kinda laggy... Went and bought black ops 2 and cant even play it pretty annoyed:/ so i got figured i would build a gaming pc sooner or later... but should i keep and modify my own pc i have or start from scratch.?? any advice suggestion on products what not... thanks in advance

i seem to be able to find some decent stuff right off the bat to be able to get for 500 im not going name brand..yap ... compaq presario cq5320f
 
Totally disagree that you can't build a decent pc for $500, you would have to use used parts though. The pc in my signature was build for about $500 including windows. The only used parts in it are the hdd, motherboard, cpu ,and ram which I got in a bundle for $300. Now, it's not a beast, but it can play all games on at least medium settings. If I got a weaker cpu I could probably fit a better video card into mine $500 budget...
 
You may want to just consider upgrading your current system. You can still reuse your HDD, DVD burner, and even your case. With that being considered, you could throw in a ~500 watt PSU, an i3 Ivy Bridge, a Gigabyte D3H mobo, a GTX-660 and finally 8GB of newer faster RAM. All things considered, you'd be looking at around $550 before tax. If you wanted to save about $100, you could alternatively go for a 7770 or a GTX-650 TI. You could also go for a lower end mobo, but I honestly wouldn't recommend it. You could also pay a bit more and get this i5 for ~$100 more, which is a really solid CPU.

You can get a pretty solid system out of that, you can even throw in a new case ($50+), HDD ($100+) or SSD ($125+) if you want to just rebuild, but keep the cost in mind.

pcpartpicker had this out there for $543.13. You can always transfer some stuff from your old comp onto this one. It's a cheap rig, but it should get the job done. Just a suggestion.
 
Looking over everything, you can transfer your hard drive and op drive over to the computer listed and you will save a bit of money, especially if you plan on only saving a limitied amount on your comp. My guess would be that you can build this comp...for around $400-$425 if you take a few parts. I don't know if the case would work or not. If you are going to overclock, expect to pay more, as you will need a cooling system and such more than likely.
