500$ How would you build your computer?

Well 500 is my budget I had come up with my own list as of how id build my computer, however id like to hear some other inputs as well as not my own.

My two builds include.
build one
5770, nforce 430, phenom ii black 3.1ghz, 4gb 800mhz.

build 2
Athlon II 260 3.1ghz, 785G mobo, 5670 video card 4gb 1600mhz.

I may also be interested in a build with a monitor, I mean the current computer i am renting uses a dual core and a 3450 and does just fine.

Have
Optical Drive, Windows XP professional, keyboard.

Biostar 770ATX motherboard Amd Athlon 245 - $90.98

crappy mouse - $5usd

Shipped to usa - $505.64, 490.64 after mir.

Im just looking to play some basic games, such as wow, css, watch hd movies. My budget is 500usd shipped to united states must include the tower, monitor, and mouse. Dont care about the mouse whatever it is.

A Few Concerns I had,
How are some video cards better than others even though there core clock is higher, which values should i be looking for? Would i be better off getting a phenom II x2 dual core with a 6mb cache over the dual core and going with a cheaper video card. Also is there any changes you would make to the build that I do not forsee, if its a hard drive change i am not too concerned.

You have to look at more than the clock. For example, memory bandwidth/clock, number of shaders, and architecture. A 5xxx with 80 shaders will do more than a 3xxx with the same amount.

Good build in the second post, but get a better mobo, and if you want to save a bit, change the GPU to this:

Sapphire 5670 1GB- $107 (before $15 mir)

Looking good...that GPU/PSU combo is awesome. But again, Biostar typically does not make the best quality motherboards. Gigabyte, Asus, and MSI are usually what you want to go with, though Foxconn and ECS have a couple of good models as well.

Thanks Drenlin, I looked in to the build harder and didn't see where i could free up some money just because the combo deal is really nice so might have to stick with biostar for now. But just a quick question I know they have benchmarks for hard drives, what should i be looking for in that department? Im guessing you want a 7200rpm drive with low seek times and read times, with a 32mb cache, if you can afford get a 10,000rpm drive and then a solid state drive?

A standard 7200RPM drive will do. try to get one with a larger storage space, because they have denser platters, making them faster overall.
