First, to answer the ? in your other thread about a 2nd hdd. Are you all set with the OS or does it have to be included in the $500?

Well, like I mentioned, I'm pretty sure I'm going to use this W7 upgrade disk and do a clean install to get from xp to 7 on this HDD. So as long as that does work, yeah, I'm all set on the OS. Even if it doesn't work, I'll probably just install Mint and call it a day.

OK.
Patriot makes good memory and here's some free Gaming Series with an upgraded mb for the same $.

Buy going with the Blue drive you already have, could get an ssd, like this one, its one of the better ones. And 128GB for C:/ - programs - and more, means you can usee the blue strickly for storage.

Awesome! Another great find, thanks!

Here's my question: the windows XP version I have is on the old HDD (I no longer have the old xp install disk). So let's say I install both the old hdd and a new SSD. Then I boot onto into the CD upgrade disk. WIll it allow me to install win7 on the new SSD even though the XP version is on the old HDD?

This is what I'd love to o, so I have a faster, newer HDD with the OS on it, and use the old HDD as storage, but I was worried that since the XP OS is on that old HDD, it would force me to install the Win7 on it as well.

What you can do is install 7 to the ssd, then, when its installed and you have a desktop, you can through Windows, delete the blue drives partitions and partition/format like you want it.

If you are using it for editing I would get a GPU even if it isn't top end as onboards are pretty crap and also maybe look into more cores for editing.
Check out my website for help www.hardwarehandbook.co.uk just new so still needs work but might help you build your PC
