500W PSU, buying surge protector? how much joules???

i'm planning to purchase a surge protector for my custom computer

i will have a 500W PSU

i have been looking at Belkin and Cyberpower surge protectors?

i'm not sure how much joules i should get? or does it matter that much?

I would always want to protect my investment, so i have no problem dishing out the extra $$ to get a good surge protector. I would suggest Opti-UPS ES1500C 1400VA (980W Capacity) because u won't have to worry about surges with that.
 
Another thing to look for in surge protectors is what kind of compensation they give if an attached device is damaged by a surge.

Just because it's a UPS doesnt mean u dont have to worry about surges .... a surge dissipiating more than 1080J will get through. Granted its not likely but it's certainly not impossible.

well yea, but out here we've never had a surge in the first place, and since one that powerful is pretty unlikely, I wouldn't be worried to much.
