500w PSU-Will it support a 8800GT-cmon experts, i need u!!!!!!!

as the title mentions, i need to know if a 500W psu will support a 8800gt and the stuff in my comp. check sig for specs.

also, are athena, apex, apevia, logisys, hec all good PSU's?
 
it will support it, but those brands are all crap, and you can't take the manufacturers word on the amount of power they put out, power supplies are not something you want to cheap out on, if your components die for some reason because of the power supply, its not like the manufacturer is going to pay for all those parts, they might not even cover the power supply if it died
 
nah them dont sound like good makes-your better off spending more on known brands...

afterall there known for a reason, ive got a 550watt thermaltake psu and its as quiet as a mouse-thermal controled fan so its not spining 100% all time

have a look on newegg as there is a good rating system on there, read everyones feed back and you should get a good item
 
ya those HEC arent bad, but id go for a solid brand like corsair, seasonic, channelwell, thermaltake (toughpower), pc power

550w should be a good aim
 
A quality 500W PSU will do the job. Some of the higher end HECs are OK, all the other brands you've mentioned are absolutely terrible. I'd look for something like the Corsair VX550W.

ya its great, good amperages, and its quiet!

Do not cheap out on power supplies man. You get what you pay for.
 
m8 your not taking into account money, he is picking budget PSU's because his budget is tight, and that thermaltake would surely be over it a good ways.
 
I would get a 500W Coolermaster PowerExtreme PSU. I have it and works like a charm. It should handle the 8800GT with ease. The best part is that it only costs around $50.

yeh well he didnt give an exact detail of how much he was willing to spend so i kind went for the middle of the road option...
 
For my part, at least, "OK" doesn't exactly qualify as a strong recommendation.
The first unit I wouldn't even consider for an 8800GT.
The second is 'OK', but an older design. Despite the high wattage rating, the 12V ratings, and probably efficiency, are quite low.

For a little more (same price after rebate), I'd prefer the Corsair VX450.
The OCZ StealthXStream 500W is another good option, good value even without the rebate.
 
It's pretty sad how there is such a thing as varying degrees of quality in power supplies. To the point of people being proud of the ones they have, and including them in their system specs.

They're freakin power supplies. The consumer world in action huh.

oops I forgot, I want to spend about US$50-60. I it must be so that I get one, i might pay $70, but I really dont want to. but dont forget, Im talking AFTER rebates. Its not that Im a cheap, its that Im 15, cant find a job(hafta freakin be 16) and rite now I cant go find a farm to work on cuz my ankle is broken. so. there. now you nkow why im on a tight budget, and yet i NEED to upgrade.
