512 gb ssd

I installed a 256gb SSD about a year and half ago and just love it. I think I can still manage to wait about a year before I would really need to do something about the capacity. I can delete some of my older files (mainly photo) because I do have them in two external backup.

But the price of the 512gb is quite tempting. I find crucial mx under $200. I know it may not be the fastest when you compare it to the $400+ class. But it is still a lot faster than a spinning platter HDD, right? When I switched over to the SSD 18 months ago, there was a lot of concern about reliability. That's why I backup my data and created image (Macrium) religiously. Are the cheaper SSD getting better than those 18 months ago?

Like to hear some of your experience for my consideration.

i wouldn't expect much diff. then again the 250 gig ssd you have is what i have. I install windows and favorite programs on the SSD. the other programs go on the standard hd WD. this works fine.

Worth the wait

Sure, and in 18 months you'll have the same capacities at less than half price as well.

Sure, that's why I said tempting. I am a serious photographer and I keep all the pictures I took in the past 10-12 years. The Picture folder is 90+gb. I probably can delete all photos over 5 year old and free up 30gb. So 18 months would be fine for me.

It is just going be cheaper, faster and better as it becomes a commodity.

From one photographer to another, don't delete your photos. Storage is insanely cheap, you can buy a 4TB hard drive for a little over $100, that's roughly $0.0003 per photo.
