 Can I put a 512 RAM in my 4 year old emachine computer??? I have a 1.80 GHz, 256MB, 56K, and a 60GB. If a 512 is too much what is the next best thing that I can but into my computer????

Thank you.

you should be able to put the 512 in your system, if you have another vdimm socket avaliable, if you dont just got for gig stick, sure it would cope with it, I have a 6 year old downstairs and it accepts 1 gig, If you have any cash after that I would reccomend a graphics card upgrade to something like a 7300GS AGP if you have the cash.:)

Your assuming he's gonna be using it for gaming though. If he just wants a faster machine, then the Graphics upgrade would be pointless.

nah i dont think that is worth upgrading the video anyway, if he was serious about games, then a new machine would be the go. possibly with a system like that, an extra 256 would suffice

512MB should help quite a bit, but first make sure that your computer can support it. And also take note of the type of memory it takes.

Yes I want to upgrade for games. I want to get guild wars and I don't want to start lagging when I'm playing? How can I know for sure if my computer can support it, and where can I find of the type of memory my comuter takes? I don't know much about computers, so if some of those questions sound dumb, please bare with me. You were once in my shoes.

Check your motherboard's memory capabilities. IF you don't have the manual, check the manufacturer site, they will definetly have the info. They will also list the type and speed of memory your motherboard supports.

I think I saw 400MHz. Is that any help. I can't find the manufacturer site.

This What found on some site. This is my computer. How can I get this to work with this.

Required System Specs:
Windows XP/2000/ME/98
800 MHz Pentium III or equivalent
256 MB RAM
ATI Radeon 8500 or GeForce 3 or 4 MX with 32MB of video memory
500 MB hard drive space
Internet connection
DirectX 8.0

Or this.(I would like to be able to use recommended system specs)

Recommended System Specs:
Windows XP/2000/ME/98
Pentium III 1GHz or equivalent
512 MB RAM
ATI Radeon 9000 or GeForce 4 Ti Series with 64MB of video memory
500 MB free hard drive space
Internet connection

This is what I need to be able to play Guild Wars.

Well I found the e-machines info, but they don't list max supported memory. If I had to guess, I'd say 1GB PC3200 would be max supported. So getting another 256MB PC3200 168-pin RAM is what I'd do.

Reading a few reviews I saw some people ay they added "additional" RAM to make it faster. So it will take more, jsut not sure how much.

i have a feeling your graphics will be holding you back, how many mb is it do you know? well my guess is it is no more than 64 possibly shared, which will not be great. you could possibly look at a radeon 9700, 9800 or something pretty basic, it looks like u dont have pci so a simple agp card should work, however im not sure so do not go on my words alone

I upgraided my video card a while back. It's a visiontek xtasy 9200se PCI 128MB. That should be no problem for guil was, right?

It'll run it, probably not max it out though. My GF's lil' bro plays it on his 9600XT jsut fine.
