512mb memory with 1gb memory on same board?

im upgrading my desktop. i got a new video card already but im cheap so im trying to figure out if i can run a 512mb stick with a 1gb stick? will be same speed but different manufacturer. its ddr400

well if it's different sizes then it cannot distribute the data the same way so dual channel isn't going, and it's just better to have the same exact stick, even better if it's from the same batch, just a recommendation, idk if it's based on fact
