512MB or 1GB?

Will I need a 512Mb or 1Gb memory for just using the Internet and Powerpoint, and using some more programs. I am getting a new laptop, and I am wondering whether to buy a 1Gb memory module. Also, will 80GB be OK?

I would be grateful if someone could give me some advice on memory.

If your just going to use it for internet and powerpoint then 512 should be fine but its never to early to start looking ahead. It wouldnt hurt to upgrade to 1 gig. I would go with 1 gig just so ull always have enough. Plus a 80 gig hd is more than enough for just internet and powerpoint uses

512 should be enough, but if i was you, and i could afford i woudl go with 1 gig, as this would future proof your laptop moreso than having 512, and save you from having to upgrade in the future. Also with 1 gig it is more likely thatit will be compatible with windows VISTA

I would go with 1GB. Notice he said Internet, Powerpoint and SOME MORE PROGRAMS. With that being said; XP itself runs OK with 512MB, but throw in the OTHER and you will soon be wanting/needing at least 1GB.

Ditto...I started with 1gb and soon found out I needed more! 512 is great for web surfing and email but when you add (SOME MORE PROGRAMS) you may find out ya should have just spent a few extra bucks. Ram is cheap now days get as much as you can, I would try to get 2gb if I was you.
