you wont be able to buy the right video card because the video cards that go into laptops are made differently. they are smaller.

You can buy video cards for some, but they usally go for much more than say a desktop version would go. Same goes for harddrives. You have to get 2.5" rather than 2.5". I just don't know, that sounds sketchy, but I'm just not for used laptops to begin with... Too many things to fail.

He meant "you have to get a 2.5 in. rather than 3.5 in."
Most standard internal hard drives (for desktops) are 3.5"
A typo, I'm sure the_other_one ;)

I'm not very good at judging a computer's worth(because I'm so cheap) but it's really up to how much you wish to spend. I looked on ebay and a 7800GTX costs about $330 for that machine. A decent sized HD off ebay would probably be around $50. So, that's almost $400 right off just to get it running. Does it come with a battery? One that works? Why does it overheat? What condition is the laptop in?

Um...the X300 is one of the weakest cards around. I seriously doubt it's overheating unless something's REALLY wrong with it or it's missing a heatsync... As for the caddy...I guess he meant a docking station? Well, your choice. I wouldn't of even considered such a laptop. I mean even if it works, you could probably almost buy a new one or a decent used one for less.

Ya it really just sounds kind of fishy, if it came with a 7800gtx then where did it go, sounds almost like he dissasembled the comp and is selling it off in pieces. And like the other one said, x300 are very weak cards, you can't really produce a lot of heat with those cards if you tried. It just doesn't seem completely legit, its gonna not be much cheaper in the end and really not worth the hassle.
