560 vs 6850

So I had a 6850, but it was DOA, so I'm returning it today for (hopefully) a full refund of $160. Now, based on my experience, um considering moving away from AMD and going to NVIDIA for my GPU. Is this a good decision? What is the 6850 equivalent? Or should I stick with the 6000 or 7000 series?

AMD sell millions of CPU's and GPU's a year, to base your opinion off a single card is, put bluntly, stupid. It is more likely that it was the manufacturer of the card that caused the fault, not AMD, so it was a problem with quality control with Gigabyte or MSI or Sapphire or whoever sold the card.

You shouldn't be put off AMD based on this one experience, in the price range the 6850 is the best you are going to get. If you could put in some more, I would look at a 560Ti, but the 6850 will easily play any game out there without a hitch

The NVIDIA 6850 equivalent is probably a GTX 550 Ti.

The 560 is usually faster than a 6850 but it's more expensive http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/543?vs=539 the AMD equivalent for the 560 is the 6870 and usually the 6870 turns out faster.

Between a 560 and a 6850, the 560 is the faster card but the 6850 is cheaper. I'd probably go for a 6850 myself.

Also with nvidia you get ambient occlusion support at the driver level (not that ati cant do ambient occlusion but with nvidia, it can be forced through the drivers)
