Ive been recommended the fx 5700LE and also the radeon 9600pro but which one is better for playing games like unreal tournament, Far cry and Half life 2.
If you could recomend any others that would be great but they have to support AGP 4X and be under about £50 ($100)
Thanks

Are you running it on an AGP4X mobo? If so i'd say buying a better gfx card isn't going to make HL2 or anything run better, its most likely RAM/CPU bottleneck if you are using an older motherboard. but i don't know ur specs...

yah another vote for th 9600PRO, the 5700LE was sposed to be the worst of the FX line i think (besides the 5200). could be wrong on that though...

ok heres my specs.

Motherboard Manufacturer Elite Group (ECS)
Motherboard Model K7VMM+

Graphics Interface AGP 4x

CPU Manufacturer AuthenticAMD
CPU Family AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2200+
CPU Speed 1800 MHz
Front-Side Bus Speed 133 MHz
Currently Installed Memory
736MB

please reply as I really need to buy a new card ASAP

1. Agp4x isnt as big a bottleneck as many put it out to be
2. Consider the 5700le 260/200 vs 400/300 for the 9600pro

i didn't mean AGP4x to be the bottleneck. i was thinking if the max AGP speed of the mobo is 4X, then the mobo is probably older. if the mobo is older it only supports older CPU/RAM, and all that. so if he was buying a 9600PRO and expecting lightning fast system because of it, i''d think the rest of his PC would then be the bottlenekc. sry if thats confusing... :(

never buy any video cards that have the SE OR LE at the end. LE stand for Light Edition,SE stand for Special Edition(just found out what it mean).

i forgot what SE stand for.

Second Edition i believe. Generally cards with LE/SE or something similiar have less pipes or half the bandwidth of the original card. there budget oriented, with the same core and memory just cut down.

And what happens if you cant afford better?

u could wait for video cards go on sales, i bought my fx 5500 128MB really long times ago for just $60. that a pretty video card for a price like that.

whoa praetor are u purposly tryin to put down the 5700 (lol jk even tho its not the sharpest tool in the shed) the 5700le isnt that low at clock speeds there 225/500

ummm i have one in my dads comp and thats wut they came set as and i havent done ne OC wut so ever yet and going from 250/200 to wut i said (if u think im lying) that would defintly fry something so dont get mad at me thats just wt settings are at on my 5700le

And what 5700LE do you have? A rivatuner or coolbits screenshot will quickly verify the clock speeds for ya :)

my.php

hehe o and i have a verto 128 if that means anything

500MHz memory data rate
See http://www.pny.com/products/verto/mainstream/5700le.asp PNY did a nice job by OCIng the memory by 50MHz up from the standard 200MHz (standard specs: http://hardware.gamespot.com/XFX-GeForce-FX-5700LE-128MB-97-O-9-9) but its a far cry from 500MHz clocked.

:)

umm well since im a "noobie" and i prob have add and cant focus on all these mhz, does that mean im right and mean that ur human or wut? plz no flamin
