5870 and crashing?

I really want to get an ATI 5870 vid card but the thing is, when i google "5870 crash" I'd get a bunch of results, scary ones too.

People have been saying that ATI is disregarding their customers by not releasing any drivers that either fix crashes or bugs (I heard there's alot of bugs too).

Furthermore, Windows 7 users (I am one) have been suffering the most from crashes (googled that too) and most of tried to explain the cause as "newness." Windows 7 is quite new, so is the 5870. Well, it doesn't take months to fix some serious crashes does it? I mean if it does, then the price should go down fast.

Anyway, can you guys tell me what's the problem with the 5870? I've just heard so many negative criticisms about this card on the basis of performance (working without crashing, bugging, etc.). I can give the card one thing: it does seem to have alot of power (runs fast).

My 5870 and my friends 5870 run fine on W7 so far. No crashes at all. I am not sure what you have read and I am sure some cards are bad, my first 5970 was bad, tonight I am running on my second 5970 and it works!!!!!!

which company makes the best card? XFX, HIS, etc.?

Sapphire/XFX/HIS all make good cards, just judge the price and cooler and clocks. XFX has the best warranty but that doesnt really mean that any of their card are particular better.

I've also heard that ATI has alot of compatibility problems with numerous games.

Most games freeze or slow down when playing like Borderlands and such. I'm not sure.

This is the first time in my life I'm gonna switch from Nvidia to ATI. Thing is, ATI is powerful, but it runs unstable (so I've heard), but a little cheaper. Nvidia cards don't run as powerful, but they are very very stable, but a little more expensive.

Since I'm gonna be paying 400 for this card, i don't want it to be a disappointment (crashing, bugs, etc.).

Are there any plans for new drivers to fix these bugs?

Ok, i'm just thinking, this card is like 400 bucks. ATI is not being very nice with getting good drivers up to fix the problems with this card and the price is still high. I mean, man, this card is four hundred dollars! That's alot!

Is it really worth it? I mean, with all the problems it has. With 400 dollars, i could buy like a PS3 and 2-3 games with it. Or, i can buy 8 PC games. But seeing as how alot of companies are hating on PC, and this card has the word "BUGS!" riddled all over it, but also alot of the word "POWERFUL!" on it. I don't know, paying 400 dollars for this thing is like expecting something SUPER AWESOME, but i don't see any superiority because of the problems that come up when you type "5870 crash" in google.

If you dont want to buy it dont. Most people seem to have very good luck with the 5870 and drivers. If you want to convince yourself that it is bad skip it.
