i heard theres a shortage of parts for it and the 5850, so when ati released it they already had the shortage in mind when they set a price, they also increased the price on the 5850 too i think. the price should drop when the part is no longer in short supply.
the 5870 uses a different part tho and it isnt in short supply so no price increase.

TSMC dropped the ball on thier 40nm. process, yields suck. Thats why there is a shortage of the 58/5900 series GPUs.
