Ok, I have a file in C:\WINDOWS\system32\LogFiles\WMI called trace.log, it is 5.13GB! I have no clue what it is, but I would like to know what it is. Does anybody know what it's purpose is? Also, I would like to clear up 5GB on my hard drive, but if I have to keep it, thats ok.

Im not sure what it is, but i googled it and found out that your not alone. And that when you first turn the computer on, its at 0KB, but after an hour or so of use it gets to 614MB, then after a few days it gets to 5GB.

I am confused about this, can someone clarify??

And that would also explain why after my computer has been on for a long time (week or two) the hard drive shows like 30MB left, but after i restart it is back to my 50GB free.

it probably is a system reconfig file of some sort, that logs everything you have done since startup. In case you screw up something it can remove everything that has been done since its last boot.
just a guess
