$600 Gaming computer build

$700 Gaming computer build

Hey guys. I am looking to build a good gaming computer for about $700.
I would prefer $600, so if thats possible, please do that (So i guess the budget is 600-700 dollars).
I am also going to be using this computer for music and other things, but mainly gaming.
Since I am in school, I guess I should have Microsoft Word etc.

  • I would like it to be Intel.
  • I would prefer two dual Hard Drives, to be used together for better performance, lets say, a combined amount of 400 or 500gb, so two 200gb, or two 250gb.
  • I would like to have this computer to be highly UPGRADABLE so that if i get more money later, i can upgrade it easily.
  • for Video cards, I would like Nvidia's. If at the end, there is enough money, i might use two video cards.
  • For a case, I would like it to be mid-sized, with lots of places for fans for cooling.

I dont think I nessecarily need it, but Windows 7 would be nice.
Also, since this is a gaming computer, please reccomed me a gaming mouse, gaming keyboard, etc.

I will mainly be using NEWEGG or TIGER DIRECT to buy the components.
I am sure I will have more questions as this thing comes together, so bear with me, as i am by no means an expert on computers.

If you want anything decent or upgradeable, you aren't gonna be able to build a decent intel/nvidia system for $600 including OS.
 
intel is always not good for low price gaming computer, i will say AMD Athlon 6000 x4 ($120) and eVGA Geforce GTS 250 1GB ($160). this should make the total price below $600
 
Yikes! $600 for a GOOD gaming computer? I dunno, but lets have a look...

here's a tiger barebones i3 kit with case, ram, power and some memory

this is around $400 so that gives you $200 for monitor, keyboard, mouse and videocard.

Honestly you'd save money buy buying part by part as you've got some cash and build what you want.

Windows 7 Home Premium alone is about $120-$150, and you could easily spend your whole budget on the video card alone!

You can do an athlon II x2 w/ 2gb ddr3, onboard video and a small monitor with ubuntu installed for $550 if that helps -> www.rawcomputers.ca

Other than that, i'd suggest posting what you had in mind for advice on performance.

I hope you find something! This would be a great deal if you get something you like!

Awesome! But that does eat up 25-30% of your budget. There's a hell of a lot more to a good gaming computer than a fancy factory overclocked phenom.

I don't want to sound like a downer, but I'd also like to see you get the most out of your $600

OS - $100
Video card - $100
RAM - $100
Case + PSU - $80
DVD burner - $20
Single HDD - $50
It would leave you only $150 for CPU + Mobo. Can't fulfil your requirement.
 
alright, I am now going to use 700 dollars. 100 bucks more. probably to 750 with all the other stuff i need.

So, if getting the AMD Phenom II X4 940 Black Edition Quad Core Processor is going to use a quarter of my budget, then what other AMD Processor would be a little less expensive?

Personally would get Phenom II x4 925 as it is AM3. You can consider Athlon II x4 or Phenom II x2 if you want cheaper cpu.

Athlon II X4 is cheaper, you may save about $30~$50
 
Cool, $750 is definitely a more do-able budget. I'd structure like this:

$100 - Case/Power

$150 - CPU

$120 - RAM

$75 - Hard Drive

$90 - MOBO

$25 - Keyboard/Mouse

$100 - LCD

$90 - GPU

Total - $750

Ways to save are reusing a monitor. Keep in mind all these figures have to be after tax and you'd have to run a free OS or reuse a license you already own.

Now the question is, how to match hardware to these requirements and keep you with a nice system within budget. You've got to keep in mind that any build priced this way is by no means going to be a high end system, but it'll work fairly well, do day to day stuff pretty fast and let you play any game, however not to full specs.
 
okay. I was trying to setup my computer yesterday on newegg. ttok me five hours. hard to choose things that go together...can someone help me find the actual items that you would use?

$150 - CPU (athlon ii x4 640 or lower end phenom ii x4)

$120 - RAM (OCZ Gold Edition 4GB (2 x 2GB)

$75 - Hard Drive (Western Digital Caviar Green WD6400AADS)

$90 - MOBO (MSI 760GM-E51)

$25 - Keyboard/Mouse (whatever, upgrade later)

$100 - LCD (whatever you like, value priced)

$90 - GPU (SAPPHIRE 100284L Radeon HD 5750, a little over budget, but worth skimping on something else, except ram)

I'd recommend against OCZ for ddr3.
