Anyone know when the 64 bit P4s will be hitting the shelves?? All I've heard was first quarter sometime but nothing beyond that.

There are a few already out. But i chated with a guy from pentium the other day. When the long horn 64 is out is when the 64 bit pentiums hit the shelves full force. Im told that pentium has a 64 bit CPU that runs cool. Could thay be trying to get back in the race? will see.

Uh...Pentium isn't a company.

EM64T P4s should be out for desktops Q1 or 2 this year. The ones already out are for workstations. Dual cores should be at least showcased this year, from what I read, AMD seems closer to public release than Intel but you never know.

Yea Intel is redoing the P4 I believe both 64 and 32 bit versions to help keep the heat down, there was an article about it on toms hardware. I just didn't know if anyone knew when exactly they were gonna release them.

tha's okay, dual cores will kick more ass and prolly almost double current performance ratings at the same frequency's.... any one agree?
No. At least not for a few years after release. Very little software can use 2 threads and until most/all of it can they will, at best, perform as well as current single core chips. Eventually, yes I think they can easily double current performace, unfortunately almost everyone seems to have 'silver bullet syndrome' when it comes to dual cores

LOL

Havnt they already? I know there are plans for dual-core FX57s but I dunno about the intel line ... I thought the P4Fs were supposed to be EMT64?

Why would anyone disagree [with such a somewhat obvious statement]? But do realize its only (for now) [superficially] true.

The extra 32bit or lack thereof dont constitute a significant heat threat

Im sure serious applications will have a fairly quick development cycle (i.e., not stupid stuff like games but real apps)

Aint that funny how things are :P

The prerelease showcase should be this year, intel's alpha/beta dual core (do they call it that for processors?) was shown last year.

P4Fs are EM64T enabled but they are S478 and workstation class only for now
