64bit only 6gb of ram showing up?

God here we go again. A 64 bit OS should allow for all 8GB of system memory to be available regardless of the video or any other memory dedication.

Ensure you bios settings set correctly, and your RAM is seated properly.

So in other words, it says there is only 6gb and the rest is for the video card, but it probably uses 8gb, but doesn's say that?

no, a 64 bit os should be able to address the full 8gb of ram regardless of what else is installed, you have some settings wrong in the bios, a faulty stick, or incorrectly installed.

Well, yeah but it detects all 9gb but it gives 3gb to the video cad

So let me get this straight, you have 9 GB installed, and you think a 64bit os will dedicate 3gb to graphics? lol, roll your eyes yourself, it should have the full 9GB available regardless. Also you said 8GB in your OP, so what is it?

Well, I know that 64 bit operating systems can use up to 8 gb of memory so I didn't expect it to show up all 9 gb... and I upgraded to windows 8 from Xp like a week ago and in Xp it was showing up all 9gb so it's very unlikely for one of the ram sticks to be broken (although it's not impossible). And I will tell you more clearly what dxdiag shows me to make things more clear:

When I go to the system tab it says Memory: 6144MB, and when I go to the display tab it says Approx. Total Memory: 3303MB, so knowing that this added up gives me 9gb I'm guessing my video card is somehow interfering with my ram.. in the system tab it also says Page file: 3127MB used, 9151MB available so there is something mentioned about 9gb although I don't know what the page file is... can you draw any more conclusions from that? Sorry for the previous post, I didn't want to be aggressive or anything :)

Well actually a 64bit OS can addresss 2^64 which is a lot more than 8GB.

You need to go into your bios and ensure that everything is set correctly.
