Q6600 High Volts And Temps

I just installed it tonight I decided to go for it over the E8500 since I do lot of compressing/video editing as well as gaming so more cores would help me out for the editing/converting.

So I hooked it into my gigabyte board boot it up...a piece of paper got into one of my 120mm fans making a bad sound scaring the day out of me.
I looked @ it via Bios and it showed it @ 266x8 so I changed it to 266x9 for 2.4ghz.

Vcore is @ 1.30 volts on AUTO and the idle temp is 56-57 this seems really high for idle temps in bios. Even for the stock fan that's not good. I put AS5 on the chip and I made sure the push pins made by satan were not loose.

I dunno what stepping I have since I don't have a OS installed atm.

I plan to pick up a Tuniq Tower later but I didn't have the loose cash and I wanted to make sure it would fit due to the 3 inch thick north bridge sink.

Any advice would be highly appreciated.

*edit*
Sweet I got a G0 stepping so how far could I drop the vcore so I can lower temps? I see people with G0 OC with the volts I have going through mine right now.

small update I got the idle temps down to 45...guess one of the push pins was loose but I fixed.

I tried to install vista but I was surprised at how slow it was going..took 10 mins to get to the "install" part of the installation but it never got to the "hard disk" options.

what could be the issue here?

small wave of screenshots

Well after a while of reading and finding 90% overclocking threads I think I did it right. Got my camera now so here is a wave of screenshots. Let me know if you see anything wrong. I was told my memory could be to blame so to set it to 5-5-5-15...didn't seem to do much.

Well since I couldn't install vista I just reboot my old AMD install 3-4 times and got it working. Roughly 10 min boot time for Vista LOL.

Still slow as hell....there not anyone who has a clue what the issue is?

here is cpu-z screenshots of the ram

Well least I got temps down to 31-30-24-27 on idle temps and 54-50-48-47 on 100% load I expect better temps once the AS5 kicks in or I get my new cooler.

Still utterly slow unable to format to Vista via CD-Rom drive...but I don't see a speed issue once I boot up my old install of Vista. Other then a slow bios boot up.

Fixed the issue make sure if you get this board you CMOS the bios then set your CPU and Ram Timings manually...can leave voltage on Auto. Also Disable C1E and EIST

I have the same chip and motherboard with a scythe katana II and my temps @ 2.4GHTz/1.3v are around 50C on the cores/ 40C CPU idle. What did you change to get your temps down the 30's?

I'm starting to think that the temps are inaccurate. Multiple programs are telling me over 90C on the cores with load. Can't be right?
