a few questions i would like answered
how good is the 6600 in performance, does it over perform the 9250,

do they have the 6600 in AGP 8x

will it play farcry (if so on what setting)

will it require 12v power connection

thanx chris

the 6600 should easily out perform a 9250.
My personal choice at this time would be to save some money any purcahse a 7600gt, the performance offered by these graphics cards are very good for the price. Also, you can get them in AGP 8X format so thats not a problem for you.
If you should decide to still go for the 6600 you should be able to play far cry at a reasonable high detail setting. Although if you do go for a 6 series card i would try to get a higher model than that because they are getting a little long in the tooth now.
I know for sure that the 6600gt requires a power connection but i'm not sure about the plain 6600

thanx for the qick reply ill do some research,

im not really looking to keep with the hardware train (keep latest hardware)

just to play the games i wanna.

at the moment i have £100 coming on tuesday so ill see what PC will ofer me

The 6600 is a far better performer than the 9250. Heck even the FX5500 outperforms it.

Yes it will play FarCry, but most likely on medium settings.

Well then possibly medium-high. I know that a while ago my friend had an A64 3500+ and a 6600GT, and he couldnt play it on highest settings.

I have an Athlon XP 2500 and a 6600gt and i can play games like FarCry, HL2, CoD2, CivIV and Hitman:BM at 1024x768 with a mixture of Medium and High video settings. The graphics look great and i have very few slow-downs although when there is a lot happening on screen i do occasionally suffer from lag.

oh ok, i was expecting poeples opinions, thanx guys.

but will it used a 12v connection aswell as AGP or will sloting it into the AGP slot run it,

a 6600gt will use a 12v connector in order to run at full speed.
£75 is pretty good i suppose, just make sure its using decent memory as ive seen ones that only use a 64-bit memory interface, you need to make sure that the one you're looking at has 128-bit memory interface

oh ok,

i will need more connectors then to get it as all of my connectors are used up with hard drives.

and i think this ones using 256 memory,

You should be able to play on high settings on farcry. I have an ATI X700 Pro, and I can play Farcry at highest settings with a framerate that never goes below 40 FPS. I know the 6600 isn't as good as the X700 Pro, but I think the 6600GT is about the same.

If you want some comparisons on video cards (such as the 6600 and the 6600GT), go here: http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/video/print/games-2005.html

They organize video cards in classes, the class you would want is the Mainstream and Entry-Level class

Edit: You also might wanna add some more ram, I wouldn't reccomend less than 1gb for Farcry

+1

I ran an XP3000 with the 6600GT with 512 pc2100 ram on BF2 and it ran like crap on low detail. Went to 1 gig of pc3200 and was able to play nicely on medium
