6600gt 256mb vs x800gt 256mb

The X800GT is faster, however, without SM 3.0 and FP32, you won't be able to play next generation games with all the eye-candy.

Roger

but id say the X800XT is better then the 6600GT
And you'd be right :)

With Pixel Shader 3, the 6600GT will be able to support games with PS 3, and the X800 won't. Pretty much what you'll get from PS 3 is better effects such as soft shadows and bump mapping.
Excuse me? PS3.0 is a performance booster. Not an eye candy enhancer.

Ok Which card is better out of the HIS Excalibur ATI Radeon X800 ICEQII TURBO 256MB DDR3 and the Sapphire x800gt 256mb DDR3?
The HIS

Whoa
1. SM3.0 is a performance booster not an eyecandy booster .. even then the benifits of SM3.0 (and 2.0b) are really only noticebale if you have a crapload of objects
2. SM2.0b gives ATi cards the same friggen effects as SM3.0 for nVidia cards -- SM2.0b allows for shader ops 512 units in length ... SM3.0 allows for 64K ... but since the most complicated shader program i know is only 96 units long .... we can easily see it doesnt matter
3. Just because the X800GT is faster doesnt mean its better and in this case, its definitively not better

i would save some cash and get a 6800
X800s are generally easier to unlock and specifiically this HIS unit comes with a fancy cooler suitable for clockramping

A very similar question people ask is 6800NU (325/350, 12x5) vs 6600GT (500/550, 8x3) ... and to be honest you can get some pretty competitive numbers between the two ... but if you compare the clockspeeds involved ... the 6600GT, because of its mass clockspeed advantage stands a chance at competiting with the 6800NU ... now if you compare the X800GT and the X800Pro ... the clockspeed advantage on the card with the fewer-pipelines isnt nearly as significant ... so really, no reason (other than maybe budget) to get the X800GT over the X800

Praetor should i get a Leadtek WinFast GeForce 6800 256MB or a HIS Excalibur ATI Radeon X800 ICEQII TURBO, they are about the same price and i use a nvidia card at the moment so i also want to know what company has better driver stability, ati or nvidia?

Although ive not had problems with ATi drivers (ok other than 4.6 and 4.8), both are stable enough. Personally, between the two, i'd get the HIS ... for either card, i'd be unlocking pipes and overclocking ... i just have more faith in the HIS cooler (and the X800 uses GDDR3 which allows for more flexibility when overclocking)
