I have the green light from the 1st Lady to rid myself from Dell's misery. I have a monitor, keyboard and sound system already. I need to build a new system. I would like to stick with Intel i7 processor. Can someone please give me some ideas for a build within my budget? Thanks in advance!

He could skimp down on the ram and gpu and *maybe* save about 100 bucks, but you arents gonna go much lower than that with i build. What about AMD or i5?

The I5 might be a solution then. It will be 200-250 cheaper then I7. You will still go over budget.

Id suffer with dell till you have the cash for what you want though.

Amd

A Core 2 Quad costs nearly as much, nowhere near the performance, and not upgradeable. If anything a Phenom II would be in order.

You mentioned Phenom II! What are your thoughts about AMD vs Intel? The AMD chips are so much cheaper! I plan on doing a lot of video editing and need a processor that will be able to run video editing software efficiently.

Phenom II is roughly equal to the Core 2 Quad in performance...if you want the fastest as far as cpu power you would want an i5 or i7, but the Phenom II's are no laughing matter, they are still excellent cpu's for the price.

Get rid of dell...build my own system!!!!!!

Yes, definitely.

Suck it up and spend a couple hundred dollars more. :D

Ok...Ok...I'm willing to make some consessions and spend a few more dollars. I want a computer that will last for while and be screaming fast...no waiting around for things to load up. I'm torn between AMD and Intel...AMD is so much more cheaper! Please build me a computer that will stay cool, run fast, last, great display, and has lots of storage! I'll make it up with the First Lady later. I'm sure she will be happy once we have a system that won't crap out like a Dell computer. :D

Bomberboysk,

Can you kindly recommend an i7 setup for me...keeping it under $1200? I have a Dell HD capable flat screen LCD but, would like to get a nice shinny new one. I also need a sink fan/case that will keep things cool. I want fast...eat up any video editing software I throw at it.

Thanks in advance for your expert advice! :good:

Good place to start... pretty much what you can get for $1200 if you want a monitor with it as well. Unless of course you mean $1200 without monitor..
