7600GT vs X850XT

The X850XT is the winner.

The only advantage the 7600GT has is SM2.0, but it doesn't have enough power to have enough FPS in games (maxed on NFS:MW).

Yeah, I'm quite sure the the x850 is better. I chose my 7600GT, though, because it used so much less power and I thought it'd be more quiet :p That little fan can really scream when it kicks in.

It's not so much the 7600, but the rather crappy engine... Read up on the topic, few computers actually get full FPS in that game, if any.

If you check newegg, they have x850xt pe for a lot less then 7600gt. I personally had a x850xt and it performed like a dream for 2005 games, and worked decently on demanding games of '06.

no the x850xt doesn't perform better than 7600GT. 7600GT can beat X850xt PE in some games, and vice versa. so, they perform equally.

But i would go with 7600GT because it support SM3.0, needs less power and it is more overclockable, and it is cheaper.

If you check newegg, the 7600GT is much cheaper than X850xt PE and even cheaper than X850xt.

7600GT cost $112.99

I would personally say to go with an X850XT, because of the extra 4 pipelines it has, and it's cheaper.

If it has more pipes doesn't mean it is better, For example 6800GT has more pipes, and higher memory bandwidth, but still the 7600GT outperform the 6800GT, it can even outperform 6800ultra.

Actually a great example would be the x1900XT and the 7900GT.

I still feel that by todays standards, the x850XT will perform better in the majority of games, however in the near future, not having SM3 is going to cripple it.

The x850XT is deffinetly the better performer.

You mean SM3 :)

Lol. :D

Proof on the 7600GT beating the X850XT? I could prove that the X850XT beats the 7600GT but you'd say that the ones I picked aren't valid, so I'm not going to try :)

EDIT: I will prove for everyone. Those who don't want to believe them won't, though . All tests will be done at 1280x1024, because that is what most people use.

X850XT beats 7600GT on HL2 by 4 frames
X850XT beats 7600GT on Hard Truck by 7 frames. Note this is on 1280x960, because there was no 1280x1024
X850XT beats 7600GT by 8 frames on Oblivion
X850XT beats 7600GT by 2 frames on Prey
7600GT beats X850XT by 2 frames on Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends
X850XT beats 7600GT by 1 frame on Titan Quest

hmmmm.

Sapphire X850XT $119.99
Sapphire X850XT PE $129.99

So, both the X850XT and the X850XT PE are cheaper than your 7600GT before mail-in-rebate. Also, since you have a mail-in-rebate, I get to have an open box choice as well.

Sapphire X850XT Open Box $98.99

If it has more pipes doesn't mean it is better...

I agree with you there, but that's not the case here.

this can go continue forever.. I found this on the internet,.. and i agree,.. :p

http://www.futuremark.com/forum/showthread.php?p=268563

they are about equal in perforumance,. (the x850xt pe is slightly faster on average from what I've seen soo far) nevertheless.. the 7600GT has SM3.0, the x850 doesnt.. so if you want a card that lasts longer,.. imo, the 7600GT is the way to go... if you're planning on getting a new pc within a year or so, and you really want better grafics now.. i'd suggest the x850XT PT.
Its my oppinion, and ofcourse noone has to agree with that ;)

One thing about synthetic benchmarks is they don't always translate to real life.

They basically said that they perform about the same, but the 7600GT has SM3.

yes... and the x850xt pe is slightly faster on average.. but its outdated (well.. not yet,..so, maybe older is more appropiate)technology will make it last less long then the nvidia tough..
that is,.. for gaming applications ofcourse, wich i assume is this threat ment for :)

It's also worth taking a look at the conclusion to that review: http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/08/25/sub_200_pci_express_graphics_card_showdown/page13.html

The 7600 GT remains a very strong contender, even in the face of this newer competition. It traded blows with its Radeon opponents at every turn, and costs barely more than the X850 XT. It's also the smallest card of the three, and the least power hungry, not requiring a discrete power cable. With its combination of low price, Shader Model 3.0 support, and consistent performance, the 7600 GT might be the best choice for the money.

Here are a couple more comparisons:

http://www.pcmech.com/buyguide/video.php

All things considered, i'd say it's extremely tight performance wise. I'd favour the 7600GT for the same reasons as TOO - noise, power, size and also price.

I don't trust these benchmarks that "Jet" posted, because if you look at the benchmarks there you will see that one 7900GTX beats 7950GX2 in all games, but thats wrong, 7950GX2 is supposed to outprform 7900GTX by far.

Anyway here is a benchmark that shows that 7600GT beats X850xt PE in HL2. http://www.ixbt.com/video/itogi-video/0706/itogi-video-hl1-wxp-aaa-1280-pcie.html

Heres another benchmarks from tomshare that shows the 7600GT beats X850xt and also X1800GTO in HL2
http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/08/25/sub_200_pci_express_graphics_card_showdown/page8.html

Also, 7600GT was better than X850xt in need for speed: most wanted and star wars: empire at war.

X850xt is better than 7600GT in FarCRy and oblivion, but it can't run HDR
in those games while 7600GT can.

Maroon, the benchmarks in the first link also seem to be wrong, since according to that, a single X1900XTX outperforms two 1900XT's in CF in HL2.
