7800 GTX VS 6800 GT? which is better

um, do u mean the best value or preformance?
If you mean value, i'm betting it would be the 6800GT.
But if you mean preformance, there isn't a way the 7800 isn't better.

ok is it worth upgrading my 6800 GT to a 7800 GTX for 270 from DELL?

Im using the pc mainly for watching movies/tv, lisitnening to music, occasional gaming, and designing (photoshop/Dreamweaver/Flash)

what about the plain 6800... I just realized its not the 6800 GT, its the 6800... is that good for the occasional gaming? WIll it play any game out there at high settings and will this card be able to play themf or some time to come?

What about upgrading to 6800 ULTRA, isnt that a little better than the GT and still below the 780 GTX? Or would it be better to get a radeon x800?

Im hoping if I call them up and tell them I want to upgrade they will let me without having to cancel my order adn re-do because when I ordered my pc you get a free monitor and they no longer have that option. O IM HOPING

the 6800 is a great card, u can OC it and get the performance of a GT. and no, it wouldnt be better to get a x800.

Here are my choices to upgrade from my Regular 6800:

BFG - GeForce 7800 GTX 256 MB GDDR3 PCIe Graphics Card (667)
ATI TECHNOLOGIES - 128 MB FireGL V5100 PCI Express Workstation Graphics Accelerator (620)
VISIONTEK - RADEON X850XT 256 MB PCIE Graphics Card - Platinum Edition (580)
ATI TECHNOLOGIES - 128 MB FireGL V5000 PCI Express Workstation Graphics Accelerator (507)
DIAMOND MULTIMEDIA - RADEON Viper X800XL 256 MB Cinematic 2D/3D PCIE Graphics Card (354)

-- Which should I go with? I would get the Ultra version of the 6800 but Dell does not have that in PCIE which my mobo is.

ALl of the above cards are better than the Regular 6800 correct? I want one that is better than the 6800 and wil last as progression in games and video cards happens, but I dont need the best of the best either.

a 6800 is already a good card. if you're gonna upgrade then upgrade to the best or else you'll be stuck with a better card and then later on you'll have to buy another card. Or you can just stick with this one until it can't handle games anymore...

I thought the regular 6800 (Remember its not the GT or ultra, just the reg. 6800) is not that great... thats what I have been told and to play Battlefield 2 and COD is would need to be set at Med. Settings...

WOuld the 7800 GTX be the best out there?
When ugrading your video card do you need to change/upgrade any other pats or anything?

If you mean value, i'm betting it would be the 6800GT.
Depends on how much you're paying for the 6800GT ... depending on where you shop, there may or may not be a significant price jump between the two

7800 GTX - yes they do for the XPS GEN systems
34erd asked about the 7800GT (not a typo for 7800GTX)

the 6800 is a great card, u can OC it and get the performance of a GT. and no, it wouldnt be better to get a x800.
You're either gonna have to OC a crapload or something (like unlock pipes) because 4/1 pipes are missing between the NU and GT (aside from the clockspeed difference)

so the 6800 regular card is just as good as the X800?
As far as you're concerned, yes :)

BFG - GeForce 7800 GTX 256 MB GDDR3 PCIe Graphics Card (667)
ATI TECHNOLOGIES - 128 MB FireGL V5100 PCI Express Workstation Graphics Accelerator (620)
VISIONTEK - RADEON X850XT 256 MB PCIE Graphics Card - Platinum Edition (580)
ATI TECHNOLOGIES - 128 MB FireGL V5000 PCI Express Workstation Graphics Accelerator (507)
DIAMOND MULTIMEDIA - RADEON Viper X800XL 256 MB Cinematic 2D/3D PCIE Graphics Card (354)
Well id consider either the X800XL or the 7800GTX

will the 6800 regular be around for some time to come as far as playing games, etc...

Can it play COD and Battlefield 2 with out any problems?
