7800 question

I heard ( I don't know if this is actually the case) that one could make an SLI setup with 2x 7800s of different makes, such as a Sapphire and a Pine XFX. Is that true?

you might run into problems cos they wouldn't have the same bios version. if you really want to run two different brands of card without problems you might need to flash the bios of the card (which would void the warranty)

Yes they must have the same Bios to work!!!!!

ive read an article a little while ago (although i forget where, sorry) where they mixed two different brands of card in SLI.
It did work but they admitted themsleves that they got lucky with the experiment

is im spending the money on 2 7800s, i personally wouldnt want to worry about bios issues and compatibility. i would go for the sure thing and get the same brand.

Are dual 7800GT's even necessary?

for now hell no. its a total waste of money. the only reason for buying two 7800s would be for bragging rights or quad display(for big time hackers).

Well, ur best bet would be to just fork over the little more cash and go for the for sure working same make card......i really would recommend doing this so you don't run into problems.
