7800GT or 7900GT - time sensitive

Finally, really, down to my last decision.

I have decided to get at least the 7800Gt in my new system over the 7600GT. The 7900GT is $54 more. Should I do it? I plan on placing my order in the next hour, so any input would be greatly appreciated.

Hehe

Well if you play games a lot, get the 7800GT. If you like games but only play them very little, the 7600GT should be plenty.

JAN :D

There really isn't a huge difference between the 78 and 79 (besides the itty bitty core/memory speeds)

noooo. there's lot's more. 7900GT has 4 extra pixelpipelines and 1 extra vertex shader. Look at the specs on the link above. 7900GT creams the 7800GT!

The 7900GT beats almost 7800GTX 256Mb in some cases... :)
So yes definitely 7900GT! It´s worth it if something is!

Thanks guys. I did end up going with the 7900GT. Now I just have to wait until they drop to $100-150 and I'll go SLI :).

you should have just gone with the 7900GTX then went sli.

The GTX was out of my price range. By the time I really need to get another card though those should have dropped, so maybe I will go with a GTX over dual GT's.

I really want to see what you score on 3dmark 06.
I have downloaded the install file for 3DMark06. Once I get the new machine up and running I will run it and post the score. I'm curious too.

Yup it's better then 7800GTX. For the price difference I'd call you silly for not purchasing the 7900GT :P.

Edit:

Read further and see that you did purchase the 7900GT, nice buy.

sli doesnt improve performance much

That really depends. It improves performance much more with higher resolutions and all the eyecandy on.

getting the best of the best is never worth it. i mean i o/ced my 7800gt to VERY close to 7800gtx speeds... and payed $150 less (at the time).
i would definitely get a 7900gt if i were building a new pc.
