7800GT or X1800XL...

I know I shouldn't spend this much $$$ just to game, but besides that, which one is the best considering I would overclock either of them w/ stock cooling?

I have the eVGA 7800GTX, non oc'ed. From what i've read, the 7800GTX and X1800XL are very close, in terms of performance. Of course, games rendered in Directx the x1800xl vastly outperformed its nvidia counterpart but nvidia still holds the crown for opengl games. In terms of overclockability, i am not sure how each card stands.

An X1800XT was overclocked so far that it beat two GF7800GT's in SLi mode. But the guy who overclocked did use dry ice which isn't really a good cooling solution cause you have to have a "cup" to fill with dry ice and I doubt anybody would want to pause the game put more dry ice in and continue on playing. But I recommend getting the GF7800GT cause in terms of pure specs it seems better, 20 pixel pipelines etc.

check it out. the 7800gt and the X1800XL are pretty much even. but the 7800 gt is slightly better so id go with that. or watever is cheaper

Because of the performance being so close, I'd also jsut go with w/e is cheaper.
