ok well im upgrading to a AMD X2 system below:

AMD X2 3800+
2gb DDR400 RAM
80gb WDC 10k HD
Antec SmartPower II 500w
ASUS A8N5X

and i was wondering if getting the XFX 7800GT 256mb really necessary, all i play now is bf2, and i was thinking what about the 6800gs or the ATI x800GTO w/16 pipes?

any suggestions?

the original x800GTO is very nice, but if you want to play games max settings at a high resolution, i would highly recommend a 7800gt.

A 6800GT should be able to cover BF2 pretty well with that system, but it's not much more to upgrade to a 7800GT, worth it IMO.

Who knows, maybe there will be another game that you like better than BF2 in the near future?

bf2 isnt that demanding for graphics... it uses a lot of ram though. a 6800gs would handle it np, but if you max the graphics it might get choppy when you load a map with 1gb of ram, as it did for me until i doubled up; however my 7800 pushes 90+fps which is overkill for that game.

well budget is another question obviously, if you've got the money you can go around bragging about your 7800, but if you're like the rest of us, get whatever you think will handle what you want to play

if it were me, i wouldn't be happy with the 6800. that's me though.. i'm not happy with my 7800gt..

For the extra $80 or so, i'd probably get the 7800GT. Then again, i'm not really one to talk with my 6600GT! If you want to be able to play future games on higher settings, the 7800GT would be the best idea, but the 6800GS is still a great card.

Keep in mind that the X800GTO isn't guaranteed to unlock (and i'm pretty sure they've started cutting the pipes on the newer ones, although the X800GTO2 should still be fine).

well thanks for ur suggestions. i guess in reality the 7800 is the best choice for the future. i have the budget for it but it raises the price of my system significantly. thats fine. i never want to upgrade again well unless for small things so i guess ill go and grab the 7800gt. Thanks
