Because you can get the 7900GT and overclock it further. The 7900GT performs slightly better than the 7800GTX, runs cooler, uses less power, and uses a single-slot cooling design.Skizzor said:Why not get the 7800 and overclock it??
in that case, why not get a 7900GTXChrisHarris said:For the performance increase--I'd spend the extra $$ and do it up big. Go bigt or go home, right?
Phate321 said:well, actually, i did buy an evga 7800 gt co se edition, and when i play call of duty 2 it shows A LOT of fragments, and i havnt changed any settings. plus, it still drops down to 28-30 frames in some areas, and i want a card that will handle a little better so in the future i dont have to upgrade it as soon. this is the card i was debating on getting. when i rma the 7800 that i got from newegg:

Current you can see the rig im using down at the bottom in my sig. If anything I think the GFX card is holding it back when running things such as Oblivion.
My question is would I get the potential out of a 7800/7900. I know its gonna be a huge improvement but would the rest of the system hold back the ultimate performance of the 7800/7900.
Would i be just as good going for a better card but not quite as high to get just as good effect if you see what i mean.
I know some might suggest I jsut go for the top end anyway cos then its there for an upgrade but once I get round to upgrading this system its gonna go PCI-E so not a lot of point
