7900GTO vs x1900xt/x

well i want to play the sims with my graphic card, and i temporaraly had a nvidia 5600 and it played it really good, but i always like ati so i got an x800 and it didnt play it as good. now i have an x1900xt 256 and im gonna upgrade to a 512 (i want to) and i was thinking if i should get the nvida cause i kno it played the sims really good even with the 5600.

Are you saying that the FX5600 played it better then the x800?

I would just keep the card you have now until you can get a DX10 card. You should be able to play The Sims on your rig without any troubles, lol. It's not the most graphicly demanding game.

I personally prefer the 7900GTX OC, its still even considered better then the 7950GT 512mb, don't ask me lol, Nvidia says the specs are just better, i guess

The GPU don't matter much, Sims 2 needs CPU power, and lots of it too! So it's not very GPU demanding.

EA System Requirements for The Sims 2 said:
* 800 MHz processor
* 256 MB RAM if Windows XP
* 128 MB RAM if Windows 98, Windows ME, or Windows 2000
* At least 3.5 gigs of free hard drive space

:rolleyes: I really do hope you were joking....

Why would I? Read up before posting. :rolleyes:

If a 3.4GHz chip can't reach even 40 FPS how do you think that 800MHz chip would perform? GPU power don't do much for this game, while even rather high end CPU's easily chokes. In this test a 6800 Ultra is used.

Like I stated, as long as you have at least a mid end card you'll be fine. It's the CPU that will determine how this particular game will run. I see your running a E6400 chip so the game should run fine.

monkeysims- what you have posted is the minimum system requirement, so on those specs the sims 2 will run at lowest setting.

And I agree with tweaker that sim2 needs a lot of cpu power

Thanks and to everyone else. i didnt expect all this for the sims. lol. i really think the problem is a faulty mobo. i had this problem before with a different one. but thanks agian.

it lags when i multitask. like media player, aim, internet explorer and other stuff all at the same time and the proformance is slower than usual. when i had an asus board the samething happened, i sent it in, they gave me a new one and it worked perfect.

okay, i got the 7900 GTO and i regret it. most of all it doesnt play the sims as well as my x1900xt. also, its not as smooth on oblivion, doom 3, or fear and i cant get as high resolutions. and the got has more memory, core and memory speed. so second try to nvidia and im going back to ati. since i already sold my old one i just bought a x1950xtx.
