8 GB File Not Fitting On 30GB HDD

Hi there,
I need to transfer a disc image from my PC Laptop to my new Macbook. I've been using my iPod classic 30GB to transfer all my music, videos etc. I tried dragging the 7.8GB file onto the iPod, but it says the drive is full. So i formatted the iPod, and tried again, faced with the same issue. Any ideas?

I formatted NTFS before, that still didn't work?
I was thinking of just archiving them, i'll try that.
