~$800 gaming rig

So I'm building a computer for a friend. He is a pretty big gamer and wants to use this for Rift, SWTOR and other newer games.

He has about an 800$ budget, though he'd much rather spend 700 so he can buy a new monitor as well.

Anyway, this what I have so far.

Case: Antec Three Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Hard Drive:

GPU: EVGA 01G-P3-1467-AR GeForce GTX 465 (Fermi) Superclocked 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video

RAM:G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231314

MOBO:ASRock P67 EXTREME4 (B3) LGA 1155 Intel P67 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

CPU:Intel Core i5-2500 Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz (3.7GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor BX80623I52500

CD/DVD:LITE-ON CD/DVD Burner - Bulk Black SATA Model iHAS124-04 - OEM

The issues:
This is around 850$ so trying to shave off some. See anything I can get a comparable piece for a better price for?

Can someone make a quick compatibility check, I'm always concious of this even though I'm constantly looking back on it.

General observations are welcome as well :) Thanks!

To SLI or not to SLI, that is the question :)

650W seems to be right in the middle. Could do with less for single 465, need more for SLI.
The mb can run 2 gpu's @ x8/x8, so more powersupply to keep from needing to upgrade it later?
Or less now because no SLI planned and use the $ saved for bigger gpu?
And if no SLI, maybe a comperable mb with 1 x16 slot to save a bit there?
Or, lol, keep mb and get 550W and a bigger gpu?

I'd get bigger, or smaller PS.
Could save a bit on 4GB memory.

Edit: Not too good a case. It'll be like a bird's nest in there. Check in the 40-60$ range for much better. Blitz, Challenger, Cooler Master 912

For Case try this - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119233
It has better cable management, the cable management on the 300 is a nightmare.

I would get this GPU instead http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130629

You can go for this PSU which is an amazing unit and a 550W and a seasonic Unit.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817207013
And for $50.

SO till now you have saved $35.

I would recommend going for the unlocked multiplier CPU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115072

So in all you save $25. :D

So till now you have saved $5.

Looks good.
Thoughts on the updates.
I have a couple :)

I believe the SE model 460 is reguarded as the slow edition, but may be ok for what you want.

1600 memory is the sweet spot pricewise. It will run at the default 1333 unless you make an adjustment. This has a little better timings too.
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL8D-8GBXM

TBH- 4GB would be enough if you want to save a little there and put it towards a diff card.

Don't forget the OD.:D

Thanks again Benny!

I already have an optical drive, so we're good there.

I've switched to 1600 RAM.

How about this replacement video card.

believe it is the same as this:

Just finished the build, booted up no problems.

Hard drive placement and getting the optical drive was a bit interesting in the rosewill case, but no big issues. My build is exactly my last detailed post except for I went with 1600 RAM (same brand) and with the SSC version of the GTX 460.

Running like a champ right now with Windows 7.

Total cost: $663 shipped, with 50$ in MIR to be turned in = 613$

My friend will be pleased :) Thanks again guys!
