80C for Core Two Duo T7500? Safe or too high?

I have a Hewlett-Packard DV9500 laptop and it has the T7500 Core Two Duo 2.2 GHz. CPU in it. The computer is brand new and if functioning normally. However I notice that when I am playing stringent games the CPU cores will reach 80 degrees calculus +. I am just wondering of this is normal or not. I know that temp for a desktop Core Two Duo CPU is redline. But I am less sure of the laptop Core Two Duo's.

That is hot... I'd seriously look into cooling it down, either by a cooling pad or try to clean up the machine. Maybe too many programs are running in the background or something. I know I have seen some laptops get up to around 79*C, but that really is too hot. My Sempron 2800 typically stays under about 43*C

That is way too hot, but it seems skeptical because it should have shut itself down when it reached 80C+. What are you using to monitor the temp with?

And because it's a pre-built, I wouldnt mess with cooling. If it breaks then bring it back and build yourself a better PC.

I was looking around on Intel.com and I found my CPU on there. Well on Intel.com it says "Thermal Specification: 100C". So does that mean the CPU is safe as long as its below 100C?

http://processorfinder.intel.com/details.aspx?sspec=sla3n#

On their site "thermal specification" is defined as: Thermal Specification: "The thermal specification shown is the maximum case temperature at the maximum Thermal Design Power (TDP) value for that processor. It is measured at the geometric center on the topside of the processor integrated heat spreader. For processors without integrated heat spreaders such as mobile processors, the thermal specification is referred to as the junction temperature (Tj). The maximum junction temperature is defined by an activation of the processor Intel® Thermal Monitor. The Intel Thermal Monitor’s automatic mode is used to indicate that the maximum TJ has been reached."

And there is nothing to "clean up" on my computer. My CPU is at 0 - 2% load when there are no programs running. I have nothing other then whats required to run on start up.

Well, I'm in the same boat. My macbook get to 89C on 100% load. I haven't tried a whole lot of programs, but it is similar for everything.
