8500GT vs 7900GT

What's a faster card when playing games like World of Warcraft all the way to Crysis? Not sure how many versions there are of the 8500gt, but it's the 512mb one.

Rest of system is:

E6600
2gb DDR2 800
Sound Blaster Audigy Gamer
250gb SATA 3.0gb 16mb cache hd

This card should play WoW on decent settings with this system right?

P.S. Reason why this is a battle of cards is because the 7900gt went bad, so Asus sent me the 8500gt instead.

Theres no way I would have accepted a 8500GT for a replacement for a 7900GT. A 7600GT is almost or as fast as a 8500GT. Even the 8600GT was sorta of a lame replacement for the 7600GT. You should have got atleast a 8600GTS or even a low end 8800GS

Ok, well..someone has the be the bearer of bad news. The 7900gt, shame it died on you, was a great dx9 card. It's good to have a newer dx10 card, but, if you are determined to jump in to dx10 gaming, you should start w/ atleast the 8800 series. In terms of gaming with the 8500 gt, it's great that it comes w/ 512mb of memory, but at this point, that's just there to make it enticing.

Large video memory is great if you're playing at high rez, but with an 8500, it likely won't happen as your framerates would be in the 10-15fps. What likely will happen, or what they did, was strap on the extra memory so it became a good option for basic computer use. It's a great card if all you're doing is general pc stuff: Email, websites and video should be great even at high resolutions.

If you are serious about gaming, i'd look into sending it back and getting some type of credit and going for a better card and paying the difference. It's really the only way to go. I been doing some research, the 8500 should handle WoW ok, but there are several reports of users having issues w/ the 8500 and the new patch for WoW. It's true the 8600 is now @ a great price point, but if you want any type of future gaming, you should go for an 8800 gt 512mb or better. As a gamer, this would be my suggestion. WoW isn't heavily intensive on the gpu, but games like crysis, on a 8500, while it would run them, you'd lose the main point of a game like Crysis because you'd have to turn most of the features which make it what it is, down to low.

Yea dude. I just installed a 9600gt facotry overclocked, and its an awesome card. Plays cod4 on all high. It's not as a good as the 800gt, but it only slips behind in a couple (5-6) fps in some games.

If you can, put your money on the Radeon 4850/4870. Or if it must be NVIDIA, 9800GTX+ is in the same league performance-wise, though AFAIK it's a tad bit more expensive (30-50 or so bucks? haven't kept up with the recent price changes...). 8800s/9600s are great cards but will struggle at Crysis maxed out. If you're willing to sacrifice some of the sweet eye-candy of Crysis, then either of those cards will do but as everyone else has said, those are the absolute minimum you should be looking at.
