8600gt

Alright guys I'm thinking of buying this graphic card.
Can anybody supply me with some reviews?
I like playing games at a very high level of detail and resolution.

Then dont get the 8600GT.

If you're on a limited budget, the 7950GT would be a much better choice. If you want a DX10 card, I wouldnt get anything lower then the 8600GTS, however even that wouldnt be that good of a choice is you like very high levels of detail and resolution.

My budget is not that limited, If I get the 7950GT will I be able to play most of the games at high level graphics?

You will be able to play the current games on high settings (probably not maxed), but it depends on the resolution that you play at.

i play fear and bioshock with the settings maxed with my 8600 gt. no problems. i buy it again.
As I said before, it depends on your resolution. I dont see you being able to max those games out though, because BF2142 maxed out @ 1280x1024 only gets 23.7FPS. And Oblivion @ 1280x1024 only gets 12.2FPS, and Prey at 25.7FPS.

Currently running an 8600 GT. Went from lowest settings on World of Warcraft at 25 fps average (old card), to Max settings at 60 avg fps (8600 gt). Also, went from lowest CS:S settings on my old card to highest settings on the 8600 and almost doubled my fps. I'd highly recommend it.

Are you sure about that:rolleyes:? Maybe some proof :)?

As for the topic start: Buy something higher then the 8600GT. At least a 8600GTS...

yep, i'm pretty sure about that. nope, don't need to prove it to you. Like i said, i'm happy with the purchase, i would buy it again. i highly reccomend the card.

Legit max out everything, or just the "max"/"highest" default setting? Do you have soft shadow/AA/AS and all those goodies turned on?

Then again, my several years old x850pro does that .

Once again, if you want to play new games at high res/graphics settings, DON'T get the 8600gt, it's just not going to cut it...If you have the money, get the 8800GTS.

here's what i get in fear: min fps- 41, max fps- 238, avg fps- 92. not to shabby for a $129 vid card paired with an amd x2 3800 (cheapest dual core i believe?) that "won't cut it". the 8800 is no doubt a better card but it also comes with a lot higher price tag. there seems to be some hatred of 8600's among this forum.

if the 8600 is in your price range, go for it, you wont be dissapointed. if you've got more to spend, go with something bigger and better. good luck. let us know how it turns out.

Benchmarks are half-wrong. I've noticed it over the past couple months too, 7600gt and cards comparable (8600gt) are sometimes showing the Minimum FPS you'll get at that resolution and settings. I've said it before, I'll say it again; I can play Oblivion at 1280x1024 maxed setting, no AA or AS, (which are simply icing, nothing more) and am usually between 20-40 Fps outside. There have been a couple rarer times when it has gone down to 12FPS, that's around heavy foliage and several NPCS, or when I'm traveling through a Unique Landscape (mod). And this is with a 7600gt and a 2.7ghz x2 3800.

And similar to Pbrx7 I also play Bioshock maxed, although I lower the resolution to 1152x864, It stays between 20-30, dipping lower in some instances but rarely going into the low teens. So sure, I believe the 7950 will max nearly every game out now at a 1280x1024 res.
