8800 GT temps.

ok so im folding for CF on my XFX 8800GT 512mb... and my temps are reasonably high.

chipset - 90
ram - 82
pcb - 65

now that is running 24/7 on load because of the gpu folding client.

if i have started up the computer and not started the gpu client my temps are

chipset - 65
ram - 57
pcb - 50

now thats a lot better... but still not good enough for idle...

i mounted an 80mm fan on the side vent of my case so it sucks air from the 8800gt exhaust vent.
helped by like 1 degree

so what do you think i should do?
the card is a single slot cooler and i really cant afford to buy an aftermarket cooler for it.

my case setup has a front intake fan and a back exhaust fan.
so the airflow should be alright...
there are quite a few cables at the front of the card... like where it would be sucking in air... the end where the 6pin power cable is...
would getting those cables out of there help at all?
it would be kinda hard to do but i could try?

any ideas?

I would try getting the cables out of the way of it, a few other things that you could do is get one of those 80mm blowers that go into the rear expansion slots on the case, such as this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835888309 which are very reasonable in price, and also there are no cards right beside it are there? those hinder the cards ability to exhaust the air coming from the card.

at the front there is a hard drive cage which i just removed as it was blocking the front fan... obviously air passes through cos it was designed that way.. but now it should be better as i didnt use it anyway.

there arent any cards other then the 8800gt.

after removing the hard drive cage my temps are:

chipset - 62
ram - 55
pcb - 48

which is better then before i removed the hard drive cage:

chipset - 65
ram - 57
pcb - 50

still not good enough. i will try to get a pci slot cooler... dont really have any money at the moment... but anyway haha.
is there anything else i can do apart from aftermarket cooling?

it would be bad to have the fan running at 100% constantly right?


also just thought id ask. is it perfectly safe to have it downclocked to like 400mhz?
i wouldnt bother doing it haha but would that work fine?

Wouldn't hurt to take the side panel off and point a box fan at it But seriously, make sure that the cables are as out of the way of the airflow as possible, if you want to increase airflow somewhat you can always dremel out the fan grille on the rear of the case where the exhaust fan it, as the grill on the case can cause an amount of restriction. Also check to make sure that the heatsink/fan on the 8800gt is clear and doesnt have any dust balls or whatnot in it.
EDIT: You could always take a 120/80mm fan and stick it under the card, take out the pci slot covers on the back and put a fan pointing out that for a cheap solution to it also.

i think a pci slot cooler is gonna be the best but i have absolutely no money... if i get some ill try and get one of them...
