8800 GTX problems

Hey guys, I just built a new system and im using a 8800 GTX as a video card. The OS I'm using is Windows XP 64bit.

The problem I'm having is whenever I try to change the video settings in a game to be OpenGL or Direct3D it says "This video mode is not supported".

I installed the video driver from the driver CD, still had this problem. I explored the CD and saw there was a 64bit version, I installed that and still have the problem. I downloaded and installed DirectX9 from Microsoft's website and it still doesn't work.

Does anyone know what could be going on here?
 
probably a driver conflict

you'll need to completely wipe all traces of the 32bit version 1st, which will require booting with generic vga drivers in safe mode

then you'll be able to reinstall the x64 drivers, and you should be good to go
