8800 Series or 4800 Series? That is the question...

Hey guys,

I'm currently considering upgrading my X1800XT for the best card I can get for around £130 - £150. I just got Far Cry 2, but don't want to play it until I get a better card so I can play it at full res (1920x1200) with no problems!
I was looking at maybe getting a 4850, but I'm not really 'on the scene' anymore, so I'm not 100% sure this is the best thing for me.

Anyway, a little insight and help would be much appreciated here. :)

Cheers,
- Tim.

4800 hands down, no doubt about it. Your going to need a 4870. 8800's are out dated cards(some people might not like me saying that).

1GB is a bit of a waste TBH, get a 512MB variant and save a few quid. The 9800GTX is good though. What PSU are you running?

Plus, the 1GB version is only £7 (5%) more...

My budget is around £140 - £150, so I'm afraid a 4870 is a no no.

Anyway, I decided to go with this: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...3 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) - Retail

Will be arriving Tuesday, where I will update you all on how much I like it! :)

You made a good choice of card there.
You'll love it plays everything I've thrown at mine got another one for crossfire.

i was simply proving a point. GPU specs are misleading, it is a fact. had i pointed that out to anyone else, it would not have gotten a second notice. but god forbid i point anything out to CFs golden boy.

What climbed up your ass and died?

I would say 48 series, great cards, have seen both the 4850 512 DDR3 and 4870 1GB DDR5 in action, mind boggling good! Especially for the price.

was going for the 8800gt first but there was a few problems (headcrabcake ripped me off)
