8800 vs 8600

hi, i was thinking about getting a graphics card and i am confused on what one to get. i have found two cards: a 512mb nvidia 8600gts with a 675mhz core and 2000mhz memory clock, and a 320mb nvidia 8800gts with 500mhz core and 1600mhz memory clock. they both run on direct x 10.

could someone please tell me which one is best please.

Yup. Memory RAM and core clocks alone dont determine the performance of a card.

You wont notice a difference with the 512MB version anyways, because the card isnt powerful enough to play games on high enough settings to warrant the extra memory.

so say i got a 8800gts 320mb, would that be too good even for playing games on the highest graphics setting. i only have a 17" monitor so i wont be playing anything on high resolutions. i read in a magazine that this graphics card is overkill unless if you have a monitor bigger than 24"

Nah, the 8800GTS isn't overkill. It'll serve your needs for the next year or two though.
