8800GT 256MB vs. 3850/3870

Dunno when it will come out, But the 256mb 8800gt is the same card as the 512MB, just less VRAM. It performs nearly identical except on higher resolutions. There are benchmarks somewhere, google it.

Cost, uhhhhh... $50-75 less than the 512MB version? maybe less than that the the first days/weeks it's released. Crysis? Sure, I think, close to at the very least.

I think im going to get the 3870. They have their "pros and cons", the 3870 also has proved to have better image quality

Antec 900, 750W Antec Neopower , Pentium D, Gigabyte P35-DS3L, 2x2GB Crucial Ballistix DDR2-800, Radeon 9200SE, 40GB IDE hard drive, Windows 2001

What about cost? And will it be able to play crysis on high (at 1680x1010)?

Not a chance....my 8800GT 512 can barely play Crysis on High @ 1024 X 768 (no AA), (then again, everything in my system but the video card is from Dell...so maybe you will be able to).

P.S. My system specs:
AMD Athlon X2 5000+ (2.6Ghz)
2 GB @ 667Mhz
Crappy Dell Mobo
260 GB HDD @ 7200RPM

I've seen your posts on that vonfeldt, I don't know what to say! Most other people get better results in Crysis with the 8800gt.

EDIT: OP has a PD, just noticed, that'll hurt his frames. He might have to put a couple settings on medium...

Yeah....do you think I'd see much of an improvement if I built a new computer? (Because I've been thinking about it...)
The computer Specs would be:
ASUS Maximus Formula
8800GT
Q9450 (I think is what its called, I don't remember...the 45nm chips..Quad core 2.6ghz)
4GB G. Skill @ 1000Mhz

^^ Yeah...I've been thinking about building one, I just don't know if it'd be worth the performance gain or not (do you think so?)

If your getting the x38 which is a crossfire board, i would get the 3870.. and then later if you needed more performance or had the money to blow, then get another for Crossfire

just my opinion

So I take it it's worth it to wait for the 8800GT 256MB? And it will be at least as a 3870 for a comparable or lower price?
