8800gt 256mb

Probably lost a significant amount. Either way, this card makes getting an 8600GTS pointless now since it's about the same price.

Nvidia just keeps making other cards have bad value -.-

It hasn't lost alot, except on the higher resolutions. Perfect for someone gaming on a 1280 x 1024 res. It's the card I'm going to get(hopefully) should the 512Mb version remain hard to obtain and pricey.

awesome. just wondering, is the 8800gt 256mb faster or slower then the 3850 512mb as they both cost around the same?

Faster. The 256MB version performs exactly like it's counterpart on the medium resolutions.. Except in games like Bioshock. It loses a couple frames on it's bigger brother there. Still puts it over the 3850, and 3870.

O ok cool. I am going to be building a post-christmas computer and this card seems perfect as i only use 1280x-1024 rez.

I knew there were benchmarks somewhere, I just couldn't find them..

BENCHMARKS

High resolutions with AA and AS seem to be the 256mb's weakness. Other than that it performs admirably, most of the time exactly as the 512mb version.

What bout 2x 256MB 8800GTs in SLI?

Would you be able to run it like one (slightly better) 8800GT?

I've seen some SLI benchies of the 256Mb version, but I can't seem to find those either.... It depends really. On the game, on the drivers.. Most of the time a pair of SLI'ed card will perform anywhere from 15-80% better than a single, it is very sporadic.

Looks excellent. Most games work identical like you said, except for 1920x1200 and alike. Most people aren't using monitors that support that, and most people are fine with 1680x1050 and less, so this card is an excellent deal.

I doubt I will be running games any higher than 1600 x 1200, but I will probably be using all of the highest quality settings. Should I bother getting the 512MB version or will the 256MB version be enough for me?

Also, no matter what card I get, I will be getting another identical card later for SLI. Will the two of the 256MB cards produce results beyond a regular 8800GT 512MB card, or will it be more like a 8800GT 256MB+ Edition (lol).

Also, would a GeForce GTS 320/640MB be enough to pull that off? (If the price of the GTS card should drop by about $150 in the next few weeks or so)

Eh, i would just get the 256mb version. NVidia is coming out with there 9000 series cards pretty soon (early 2008) so no point in going all out and SLIing two 512s and at 100x1200 it appears you wont even be able to tell the difference between the two. The GTS are slower then the GTs.
