8800GT crashing regularly during BF2142

I have been playing Battlefield 2142 for a couple years now, and actually upgraded to a Core2Duo/8800GT because I wanted to run that specific game on max resolution (1680X1050 on a 22"). It ran great for a year, then it started crashing. When the game quits, it says that the graphics card has crashed and recovered. What do you thing is going wrong? I have the latest drivers, and have turned off all overclocks in Rivatuner so it's running at stock. Could it be heat? What is the best program to monitor heat on the GPU? What temps should I watch out for?

well I use VDOtool but that's for Palit cards

You can get SIW, i get the same numbers with it as with VDOtool. I think rivatuner also shows temp

I oced the core by 40 Mhz and the Memory by 50. It didn't have problems for a year. Now it's having problems not OCed, could be dying...

That small of an increase shouldn't hurt anything, I would say the card may be going bad. I used to have the same thing except a blue screen. Traced it to my G card :), switched to ATI cards, haven't had any problems.

I have the latest patch (v1.5).

What happens is the game freezes and the sound repeats itself in a half second loop, sometimes a black screen appears. 50% of the time, the game recovers after about 10 seconds, and the other 50% of the time the game exits to Windows and gives me the "Battlefield 2142 has stopped working, Windows is searching for a solution..." window.

Have you tried a re-install? Perhaps a game file has become corrupted, to me, it does not sound like a hardware problem. Also, when did you patch it approximately, and did it work before the patch?
