comp specs
evga 780i motherboard (drivers installed)
q6600 processor - stock cooler for now and not overclocked..... yet
coolermaster 1000 watt psu
2gb crucial ballistix ram
western digital 1 tb hard drive (green power)
evga 8800 gt superclocked videocard(s) only have one on the motherboard right now
linksys ethernet card
samsung sh-203b dvd drive

what's happening is whenever i try to install the video card, if i use the cd, it stops about 1/2 way through and goes to a black screen with a little blinking cursor in the upper left hand corner. i downloaded the drivers from the evga
website, and had the same experience. i tried installing through the device manager and same thing except for once, when it actually went through the whole thing only to greet me with the message that a driver was corrupted or missing, so it couldn't install.

the installation goes normally when i try from the downloaded or the disc, but when i go through the device manager, it asks me to try to find the n4_mini.sys file. i go to the system32/drivers folder and point it to the right one. then it says setup cannot copy n4_disp.dll. again i point it to the right one, and it asks me to install the disc that's already in the dvd drive. and asks me to find the drivers folder on the disc. i do, and then it goes to the black screen, or once it went through it all, and didn't go right.

i've called evga and they couldn't figure anything out, other than taking as much as i can off the power supply and plugging the card in with the molex-pci express connector. that didn't help at all.

although i'm heading to work right now, and i won't be at my comp, i will try to check on this at work, and answer questions.

not yet, i didn't even know about them. i'll try searching for them when i get home.

*edit* - didn't want to bump my post.. that's usually frowned upon in forums

downloaded the omega drivers, same thing happened, though i'm wondering if it's partly my fault. i waited and waited at the please wait thing, and i canceled it. then under it was all the other stuff i saw from the other installations. and then it had the same end result.

i downloaded the forceware 169.21 drivers from the nvidia site, and they worked. now to get the other one in there and get going on the games i bought.
